Dudley appoints new director to oversee the Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library

Nicole Messier brings to the Pearle L. Crawford Memorial Library more than 10 years of experience in public libraries and three years of experience as librarian at Charlton Elementary School.

The Charlton resident of more than 20 years assumed the role of director at the Pearle on February 21.

“The Library Trustees felt that the combination of Nicole’s previous library knowledge and experience, combined with her enthusiasm and energy, made her the right choice for Pearle’s new Library Director,” Library Trustee Patricia Korch said. “Now that the library is fully staffed, we look toward moving forward with expanded offerings that will benefit the community.”

Messier holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Master of Library Information and Studies, which is a specialized program for skills in building community outreach and developing library advocacy.

“There is something special about a public library, especially a small public library,” Messier said. “They offer us a chance to really connect with residents and bring value to the community.”

The Pearle offers many great services like hotspots, eBooks, eAudio, newspapers, DVDs, museum passes and programming galore.

“Gone are the days when a library is all about books, and being ssssshhhh'd,” she added. “They are a place for providing access to information, and promoting literacy but it’s also about offering an inviting and welcoming space that people want to visit. Every community deserves a place to learn, explore, work, inspire, or connect. A place that is attentive to everyone’s needs whether that’s attending a toddler story time, aiding members in career readiness, or providing access to technology. The possibilities are endless!”

Messier plans to focus on increasing services and trying out some new ones like digital literacy training and a Library of Things where you can borrow items like a drill or a metal detector.
