DUDLEY - And the winner is: Adriana Panu, a fourth grader at Dudley Elementary School.
The Dudley Police Department recently held its 13th Annual Holiday Card Contest with the fourth- grade students at Dudley Elementary.
The students, under the direction of art teacher Dawn Gravel, were given the opportunity to submit a drawing to be used as the cover photo on the Dudley PD 2022 holiday card.
The contest, designed to engage local children in the fun and excitement of the holiday season, received more than100 entries.
The winning entry was created by Adriana.
“This is very exciting; I had no idea. She hadn’t told us about it, so we’re very surprised,” mom Jasmina Panu said at the school on December 20.
Police Lt. Marek Karlowicz and Sgt. Dean Poplawski announced the winner to Adriana’s class that afternoon, and it seemed she was as surprised as her mother.
“Somewhere in the White House is that card,” Lt. Karlowicz told the class. “At the Patriot Palace, Bob Kraft has it on his desk somewhere.”
The officers presented Adriana with a poster sized copy of her drawing, a box of cards for family and friends, and a gift card in appreciation of her efforts.
For more than a decade, the Dudley PD has selected student artwork for its holiday card. The mailing goes to local businesses and individuals, as well as other police departments, local professional sports teams, Governor Charlie Baker, and President Biden.
The Dudley PD thanks Dudley Elementary School Principal Kelly True and Art Teacher Dawn Gravel for their efforts in coordinating this program. And, thanks also goes out to all the teachers and students for their participation and efforts in making this program a success.
