Information for Potential Board/Committee Members

There are a few things to consider before submitting a volunteer application.

  1. Time commitment: some boards/committees meet multiple times per month, and some meet just a few times per year. Others meet frequently leading up to Town Meetings. Make sure you are able to meet the time commitment for the position.
  2. Relevant experience: consider your background and experience. If you have experience working in finance, you might consider the Finance, Appropriation and Advisory Committee (FAA). Love working with seniors? The Council on Aging might be a perfect fit. Want to help with the rehabilitation of the Funzone Playground? Check out the Recreation Commission.
  3. Motivation for volunteering: think about the reasons you want to volunteer your time for a board/committee position in the Town of Dudley. Members of appointed committees should be people of competence and goodwill. They should be sensitive to the short-term and long-term impact of their decisions and recommendations.
  4. Residency requirements: you must be a resident of Dudley to serve on a board/committee unless otherwise stated.
  5. Knowledge of the position/board: how much do you know about the functions of the board/committee and the responsibilities of the position? A great way to learn about these aspects is to attend the board/committee meetings. You can also watch previous meetings on YouTube
