The Treasurer's Office is responsible for many of the town's financial functions including employee payroll, vendor bills, tax title, short and long-term borrowing for debt, and reconciliation of all Town bank accounts.

The Collector's Office is responsible for the efficient and timely billing and collection of all monies due to the Town including: Real Estate Tax; Excise Motor Vehicle Tax; Personal Property Tax; Water/Sewer Bills.

Real Estate Bills are issued by mail twice a year: the last week of June and the last week of December, but are DUE quarterly:

  • August 1 (covers July, August, September)
  • November 1 (covers October, November, December)
  • February 1 (covers January, February, March)
  • May 1 (covers April, May, June)

Interest accrues daily at 14% on bills not paid by the due date (no grace period).

Water/Sewer Bills are issued quarterly and are due roughly in between our quarterly Real Estate bills.

Motor Vehicle Excise Bills information is issued to each Town in Massachusetts directly from the Registry of Motor Vehicles. The 1st commitment is issued in mid-February and is due in mid-March. More commitments are issued throughout the year.

All bills are payable by:

  • Mail (interest accrues until the day we receive the mail, not the postmark date)
  • Online by bank account or credit card (the Town is not responsible for website issues)
  • Dropbox in the Police Station Lobby
  • In-person at the Collector's Office

Bills are NOT payable:

  • Over the phone
  • Online after they are late
  • By credit card at the counter

Checks should be made payable to "Town of Dudley"

Please enclose the remittance portion of the bill to ensure proper credit. If you would like a receipt, enclose a self-addressed & stamped envelope with both the payment, the remittance portion, and the taxpayer portion.

If your taxes are being paid by a bank or mortgage company, please contact them to ensure that they have the correct tax information for your account. Remember, as the property owner, you are responsible for the tax obligations.

Please do not "post-date" personal checks. Checks are deposited daily. If a check is dishonored by a bank for any reason, a returned check fine of $30.00, plus applicable interest and charges will be added. It is illegal to submit "post-dated" checks for payment.

Cash or check payments are accepted. Online payments can be accepted until midnight on the due date without incurring any additional charges.

Under normal circumstances, the Collector’s office will send out demands 2 weeks after a bill is due. (This notice will include a demand fee of $20 dollars and interest dated back to the due date). For unpaid motor vehicle excise after the demand, those bills will go on warrant to the Deputy Collector.

Penalties and interest, once applied, are not waivable under any circumstances in accordance with Massachusetts General Law Chapter 60 Section 15 (Collector has no authority to waive fees or interest).
