THE DEP IS REQUIRING THE DUDLEY WATER DEPARTMENT TO IMPLEMENT A NON-ESSENTIAL OUTDOOR WATER USE RESTRICTION, ACCORDING TO THE NEW WATER MANAGEMENT ACT OF 2011. THIS WILL BE EFFECTIVE MAY 1^ST, 2012 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30^TH, 2012, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 9:00 A.M. UNTIL 5:00 P.M..

As stated in Special Condition 6 of Dudley’s Water Management permit, “nonessential outdoor water use” includes uses that are not required:

1. for health or safety reasons;
2. by regulation;
3. for the production of food and fiber;
4. for the maintenance of livestock; or
5. to meet the core functions of a business (for example, irrigation by golf courses as necessary to maintain tees, greens, and limited fairway watering, or irrigation by plant nurseries as necessary to maintain stock).

Examples of nonessential outdoor water uses include:

• Irrigation of lawns via sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems;
• Washing of vehicles other than by means of a commercial car wash, except as necessary for operator safety; and
• Washing of exterior building surfaces, parking lots, driveways or sidewalks, except as necessary to apply paint, preservatives, stucco, pavement or cement.

Examples of acceptable outdoor water uses include:

• Irrigation to establish a new lawn during the months of May & September;
• Irrigation of public parks and recreations fields by means of automatic sprinklers outside the hours of 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; and
• Irrigation of lawns, gardens, flowers, and ornamental plants by means of a hand-held hose.
